Vaping Could be Banned In The USA
Due To Results In America Vaping Could Be Banned Forever!
Vaping has become widely accepted in the UK and is now being supported by the Public Health organisations. However it seems that the US thinks very differently.
The gateway theory that suggests vaping leads to smoking has been proven wrong many times. However people are still under the impression that vaping is a gateway to tobacco smoking.
The commissioner of the FDA has spoken about the issue with more youths taking up vaping. He also said that vaping products could face a huge threat if it continues to grow for youths.
Scott from the FDA had this to say: “I’ll tell you this. If the youth use continues to rise, and we see significant increases in use in 2019, on top of the dramatic rise in 2018, the entire category will face an existential threat,”
“It could be ‘game over’ for some of these products until they can successfully traverse the regulatory process. I think the stakes are that high.”
The UK and the US have different points of view on this issue and have found very different research results.
Here are two statements from the UK
- “E-cigarettes are attracting very few young people who have never smoked into regular use, and e-cigarettes do not appear to be undermining the long-term decline in cigarette smoking in the UK among young people.” – Public Health England.
- “Concerns about the risk of e-cigarettes potentially providing a ‘gateway’ into conventional smoking have not materialised to any significant degree.” – Science and Technology Committee
Now here is a statement from the US.
- “There is substantial evidence that e-cigarette use increases risk of ever using combustible tobacco cigarettes among youth and young adults” – National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine.
Professor Linda had discussed the reasons why the data seems so different, this could be due to different survey questions, and regulatory differences.
She also said “We should not be forced to choose between protecting children and supporting the one in two adult smokers who will suffer and die prematurely from a smoking-related disease if they continue to smoke. The challenge in 2019 and beyond will be to ensure the right balance is struck.”
So it seems like e-cigarettes could cease to be in the US. We have no idea whether then this law could be made or if it ever will. Unfortunately the results in America have been against Vaping while the results in the UK have been about pushing the products to everybody that they can.
